On my way to Lebanon 1.5 months ago, I had the rare opportunity to sit by Don Preston, the lifetime keyboardist of the great guitarist and musician, Frank Zappa. I didn't want to eat his brains out with questions, so instead i talked about myself. At one point in the conversation I mentioned the name Moog.
Moog was his old friend. He opened his laptop and showed me a program he bought of a digital moog synthesizer that was made in the late 60's (this might not be correct, i think the early 70's) which he also owned the original of.
He was really into his digitalized version of something he had sitting at home. This gave him the opportunity to take his music wherever he wanted, and gave him access regardless of time and location. He shared with me his love for music and opened my eyes to a new perspective of looking at art and music.
Unlike the typical rock star, Don never did drugs. He never lost the love of music. And most of all, he kept his identity from being taken over by the glorious fame he experienced in his lifetime.
Although he is now in his later years, I felt like I was talking to someone my age.. someone who still had optimism running through his vains. Yes, people say when you get older, we learn. But if learning forfeits optimism, then i have been told wrong.
A pact that I will make, and encourage others to make is to never lose hope and optimism in anything you do. For the past year, it was hard for me to see through the darkness(i was never emo, don't get me wrong) , but it takes a certain experience to open your eyes.
Peace out people... Now imma go be a hermit somewhere... Ill go follow the Upanishads of the old pre-hindu teachings and become a wondering beggar.
EmoMan... i mean EdoMan :)
